  57. SECTION 2 - INSTALLATION PROCEDURES 
  58.  
  59. DOS Installation
  60. 1. Before installing the game, make sure that your computer is turned 
  61. on and that the MS-DOS prompt is showing. The prompt should 
  62. look like this C> or like this C:\> (the letter may be different if you 
  63. are installing to a different drive). Exit completely out of any other 
  64. program you may have running such as Windows or DOS Shell.
  65. 2. Insert the IndyCar Racing II CD into your CD-ROM drive. Change 
  66. to your CD-ROM drive by typing the letter of your CD-ROM drive 
  67. followed by a colon, and then press <ENTER>. For example, if ôDö 
  68. is your CD-ROM drive, type D: and press <ENTER>.
  69. 3. Type INSTALL and press <ENTER>. Follow the on-screen 
  70. instructions to complete the installation.
  71. 4. By default, the installation program will create a directory on your 
  72. C: drive called ICR2 and place all game files in that directory.
  73. 5. The game will prompt you for sound configurations. This will only 
  74. occur when you have newly installed the game. You must run each 
  75. setup before you can play IndyCar Racing II. 
  76. 6. To play IndyCar Racing II after you have installed the program, 
  77. change to the ICR2 directory on your hard drive by typing CD\ICR2 
  78. and pressing <ENTER>.
  79. 7. From the game directory, type INDYCAR (for VGA) and press 
  80. <ENTER> or INDYCAR -H (for SVGA) to begin the game.
  81.  
  82. You may reconfigure your sound setup after you have installed the 
  83. game. To do so, change to your IndyCar Racing II game directory, as 
  84. explained in Step 5 above, type SETUP and press <ENTER>. Then 
  85. follow the on-screen instructions.
  86.  
  87. Windows 95 Installation
  88. 1. Insert the IndyCar Racing II CD into your CD-ROM drive. After a 
  89. few seconds, a window will automatically appear on your Desktop 
  90. and ask you if you would like to install IndyCar Racing II.
  91. 2. Choose "Yes, please" and follow the on-screen instructions.
  92.  
  93. To play IndyCar Racing II from Windows 95 after installation, insert the 
  94. CD in your CD-ROM drive. It will ask you if you want to play IndyCar 
  95. Racing II. Click on "yes".
  96.  
  97. NOTE: IndyCar Racing II may not play properly if any other programs 
  98. are running in Windows 95. Make sure no other programs are running, 
  99. including screen savers and virus scanners BEFORE you start IndyCar 
  100. Racing II.
  101.  
  102. If no window appears after putting the CD in the drive, you may have 
  103. Autoplay disabled in Windows 95. To enable it, click on your Start 
  104. button, go to Settings, then Control Panel. From Control Panel, double-
  105. click on the System icon. Choose the Device Manager tab, then find the 
  106. section labeled "CD-ROM". Click the plus (+) next to CD-ROM, then 
  107. click the name of the CD-ROM beneath it. Then click the "Properties" 
  108. button. When the Properties window comes up, choose the "Settings" 
  109. tab. In the "Options" section, put a check mark next to "Auto insert 
  110. notification". Then click "Apply" and "OK". Follow the on-screen 
  111. directions (you may need to restart Windows 95). Now when you insert 
  112. the IndyCar Racing II CD, a window should automatically appear.
  113.  
  114. If you have trouble installing IndyCar Racing II under Windows 95, we 
  115. recommend booting your system in MS-DOS mode and installing the 
  116. game following the instructions below.
  117.  
  118. SECTION 3 - COMMON INSTALLATION PROBLEMS
  119.  
  120. PROBLEM: In Windows 95, when you insert the CD, you don't get the 
  121. message "Do you want to play IndyCar II?"
  122. SOLUTION: You need to enable the Autoplay feature of Windows 95. 
  123. Click on your Start button, go to Settings, then Control Panel. From 
  124. Control Panel, double-click on the System icon. Choose the Device 
  125. Manager tab, then find the section labeled "CD-ROM". Click the plus 
  126. (+) next to CD-ROM, then click the name of the CD-ROM beneath it. 
  127. Then click the "Properties" button. When the properties window comes 
  128. up, choose the "Settings" tab. In the "Options" section, put a check mark 
  129. next to "Auto insert notification". Then click "Apply" and "OK". Follow 
  130. the on-screen directions (you may need to restart Windows 95). Now 
  131. when you insert the IndyCar Racing II CD, a window should 
  132. automatically appear.

  135. SECTION 4 - COMMON GAME PROBLEMS
  136.  
  137. PROBLEM: You receive a message: "ERROR: Initializing Mouse Could 
  138. Not Find Mouse on System"
  139. SOLUTION: There is no mouse driver installed in DOS. A mouse driver 
  140. must be installed before the game will run. Check your mouse 
  141. documentation for loading instructions.
  142.  
  143. PROBLEM: When you start the game, the program crashes with a 
  144. DOS/4GW Professional fatal error (1307): not enough memory.
  145. SOLUTION: This is caused by a memory conflict, usually with a memory 
  146. manager such as EMM386 or QEMM. Running the game from a boot 
  147. disk will usually correct this problem. Use the game's INSTALL 
  148. program to create a boot disk. If you experience problems, create a boot 
  149. disk using the appropriate instructions in Sections 6 or 7. 
  150.  
  151. PROBLEM: You get an "Error reading Drive D" or "Unable to read drive 
  152. D" message. (Drive letter will vary depending on your CD drive letter). 
  153. The error may occur at the beginning of the game or randomly 
  154. throughout the program.
  155. SOLUTION: The most common reason for a "read error" is a dirty or 
  156. scratched CD. You should check the CD to make sure that there are no 
  157. smudges, fingerprints, scratches or cracks on it. If you see any smudges 
  158. on the CD, clean it off with a soft cloth and try it again. 
  159.  
  160. If this doesn't work, the problem may lie with the CD ROM drivers. You 
  161. should make sure that you are using the latest version (v2.23) of 
  162. MSCDEX in your AUTOEXEC.BAT. If you're using DOS 6.2 or higher, 
  163. use the MSCDEX in your C:\DOS directory; this one is version 2.23. If 
  164. you're using Windows 95 and running the game in MS-DOS mode, you 
  165. should be using the MSCDEX in your C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND 
  166. directory; this one is version 2.25. You should also check with the CD 
  167. ROM drive manufacturer to make sure that you have the latest version 
  168. of their CD drivers. Outdated or incompatible drivers can also cause this 
  169. type of problem.
  170.  
  171. This error can also be caused by a defective CD. The easiest way to get a 
  172. new CD is to exchange it at the store where you bought the game. If they 
  173. are unable to exchange the game, Sierra will replace it for you. Please 
  174. see your game documentation for information CD replacement.
  175.  
  176. PROBLEM: You experience random lockups during the game, or your 
  177. computer reboots during the middle of game play. Sometimes you 
  178. receive memory errors or other problems when playing IndyCar Racing 
  179. II. 
  180. SOLUTION: This is caused by a memory conflict. Running the game from 
  181. a boot disk will usually correct this problem. Use the game's SETUP 
  182. program to create a boot disk. If you experience problems, please see the 
  183. boot disk instructions in Sections 6 or 7.
  184.  
  185. PROBLEM: The graphics in the game are in low resolution or are 
  186. distorted.
  187. SOLUTION: Make sure you are typing INDYCAR -H to start the game in 
  188. high resolution SVGA mode. If this doesn't help then your video card 
  189. may be using an incompatible VESA driver. Make sure that you are 
  190. using the VESA driver appropriate for your video card. Check your 
  191. video card documentation for details. The game does include a universal 
  192. vesa driver that can be installed by typing SETUP from the ICR2 
  193. directory. In addition, graphics distortion can be caused by an 
  194. incompatible mouse driver. Some DOS mouse drivers don't handle 
  195. VESA (SVGA-resolution) applications well. Try switching to a 
  196. Microsoft or Logitech mouse driver. Sierra recommends Microsoft 8.20 
  197. or higher, or Logitech 6.1 or higher. If you are running the game in 
  198. Windows 95, be sure that no other programs are running.
  199.  
  200. PROBLEM: The highlighted menu is scrolling uncontrollably.
  201. SOLUTION: This problem is caused by a joystick (or other steering device) 
  202. that is out of calibration. To stop the scrolling, press the "J" key at the 
  203. Main Menu. This will turn off the joystick. Then, follow the steps below 
  204. to calibrate the joystick:
  205.  
  206. 1. Select OPTIONS from the Main Menu and press <ENTER>
  207. 2. Select CONTROLS and press <ENTER>
  208. 3. Select CALIBRATE JOYSTICK 1 and press <ENTER>
  209. 4. Push the joystick left, right, up and down and to all four corners. 
  210. (NoteOn some wheels or yokes, you may only be able to "steer" 
  211. left and right to calibrate.)
  212. 5. Press <ENTER>
  213.  
  214. Once the joystick is re-calibrated, return to the Main Menu and press the 
  215. "J" key again to turn the joystick back on. For wheels and yokes with no 
  216. Y-axis, it is not necessary to turn the joystick back on in the menus by 
  217. pressing "J". The wheel will still function in driving mode.
  218.  
  219. PROBLEM: The replay is extremely short.
  220. SOLUTION: The length of the replay is affected by the amount of available 
  221. memory: the more available memory you have, the longer the replay 
  222. will be. To increase the amount of free memory, create a boot disk using 
  223. the automatic boot disk maker in the game's SETUP program or the 
  224. appropriate instructions in Sections 6 and 7.
  225.  
  226. PROBLEM: The video is choppy.
  227. SOLUTION: There are several steps you can take to improve the frame rate 
  228. of IndyCar Racing II. These include:
  229.  
  230. 1. Turning graphic options off. We usually suggest that people start 
  231. by turning off road and grass textures. Next, turn off wall textures 
  232. and possibly grandstands. Next, continue to turn off graphic 
  233. options (car textures, horizon, etc.) until the frame rate improves to 
  234. an acceptable level.
  235. 2. Reducing the number of opponents. Another way to improve frame 
  236. rate is to reduce the number of opponents that you compete 
  237. against. Reducing opponents from the default of 31 down to 15-20 
  238. can have a dramatic effect on frame rates.
  239. 3. Reducing the drawing of opponents in front and behind. A third 
  240. option to improve frame rate is to reduce the number of opponents 
  241. that are being drawn in front and behind the user's car. Reducing 
  242. these numbers to 5-6 in front and 1-2 behind can also have a great 
  243. effect on frame rate.
  244. 4. Reduce the number of opponents that can be heard. Reducing the 
  245. number of opponents that you can hear simultaneously to 2-3. This 
  246. will reduce the strain on the processor and sound improve frame 
  247. rate slightly.
  248. 5. Use FM sound. Yet another option is to use FM sound instead of 
  249. digital sound. To do this, type INDYCAR -F from the ICR2 
  250. prompt and press <ENTER>. The sound quality will not be as high 
  251. as the digital sound, but it is much less memory intensive and can 
  252. improve frame rate.
  253. 6. Run in standard VGA. If you are running the game in SVGA 
  254. (HiRes), you need at least a 486DX2/66 with 8 MB RAM. This is 
  255. the MINIMUM requirement for SVGA and you may have to 
  256. reduce graphic detail and opponents significantly in order to get an 
  257. acceptable frame rate. If lowering these options does not improve 
  258. the frame rate enough, you're only option is a faster computer or to 
  259. run the game in VGA.
  260.  
  261. PROBLEM: The joystick is calibrated but it doesn't appear to control the 
  262. car properly.
  263. SOLUTION: In order to play the game using a joystick, steering wheel 
  264. device, or flight yoke, you have set up the controls in addition to 
  265. performing a joystick calibration. To do this:
  266.  
  267. 1. Start the game and get to the Main Menu
  268. 2. Highlight OPTIONS and press <ENTER>
  269. 3. Highlight CONTROLS and press <ENTER>
  270. 4. Highlight SET CONTROLS and press <ENTER>
  271. 5. Highlight each specific control (STEERING, ACCELERATION, 
  272. etc.) and press <ENTER> then press the joystick button, keyboard 
  273. key, or joystick direction that you want to use for each specific 
  274. function. (NOTE: If you use the same key for two different 
  275. controls, you will receive a "Conflicting Controls" error message 
  276. when you try to exit the SET CONTROLS menu. You will need to 
  277. make sure that all controls are set to different keys.)
  278.  
  279. PROBLEM: While using a steering wheel or yoke the car is steering in the 
  280. opposite direction.
  281. SOLUTION: Go into the OPTIONS/CONTROLS/SET CONTROLS menu. 
  282. Choose STEERING and press <ENTER>. Slowly steer to the LEFT 
  283. until you are sent back to the SET CONTROLS menu and release the 
  284. yoke. The line next to steering shoud read: JOYSTICK 1 X-AXIS < >.
  285.  
  286. Once you see this, the joystick's steering should be set up properly. Set 
  287. the other controls as necessary.
  288.  
  289. PROBLEM: The multiplayer mode won't work.
  290. SOLUTION: (NOTE: For general information about modem play, see the 
  291. section in the IndyCar Racing II manual starting on page 46.)
  292.  
  293. The most common problem with the multiplayer (modem play) feature 
  294. is an incorrect modem initialization string. Several initialization strings 
  295. for specific modems are included in the game. If your modem is not 
  296. among those already in the game (or if the string does not work), you 
  297. will need to construct the string manually. Specifically, the modem 
  298. initialization string needs to do three (or four) things:
  299.  
  300. - Turn off data compression (hardware)
  301. - Turn off error detection
  302. - Turn off error corrections
  303. - Set the modem to 9600 baud (recommended for any modem not 
  304. listed in the game)
  305.  
  306. Information on how to construct an initialization string for your 
  307. particular modem can be found in your modem manual. The string 
  308. should follow the following format:
  309.

  312. Enter the codes from the modem manual for the above functions into 
  313. the blank line in the sample string.
  314.

  326. If you don't see your question listed in this document: Most 
  327. difficulties with IndyCar Racing II, including lockups and Fatal or Panic 
  328. errors can be resolved by simply running the game with a boot disk. 
  329. Please see Sections 6 and 7 for detailed boot disk instructions. 
  330. Incompatible or outdated sound card and VESA drivers can also cause 
  331. lockups and errors. You should make sure that you are using the latest 
  332. versions of your sound card and video drivers. Contact your sound and 
  333. video card manufacturers to obtain the latest drivers. If you are 
  334. experiencing problems in Windows 95, restart the computer in DOS 
  335. mode and run the game in that environment.
  336.  
  337.  
  338. SECTION 4 - COMMON SOUND PROBLEMS
  339.  
  340. PROBLEM: The game locks up with the last information displayed being 
  341. sound card settings.
  342. SOLUTION: This lockup is caused by an incorrect sound card choice or one 
  343. of it's settings. Run SETUP from the \ICR2 directory to change the 
  344. settings. Please consult your sound card documentation for the correct 
  345. sound card setup. Otherwise, go to the Setup Sound Card û Manual 
  346. and select Change Digital Sound Card. Choose None from the choices 
  347. and the game will play.
  348.  
  349. PROBLEM: When running the game, you get no sound and/or music.
  350. SOLUTION: This is usually caused by either incorrect sound settings in the 
  351. program or insufficient free memory. First, check your sound settings 
  352. for the game. If you're running under Windows 95, consult your 
  353. Windows 95 documentation on how to change and configure sound 
  354. drivers. If you're running under DOS, run the SETUP program from the 
  355. \ICR2 directory. Select Setup Sound Card - Manual and follow the on 
  356. screen instructions. If the Sound Blaster setting doesn't work, check 
  357. your sound card documentation to see if your card can emulate the 
  358. Microsoft Sound System, then set the card up for that mode and re-run 
  359. the SETUP program. If you're sure that all of your settings are correct in 
  360. SETUP, you may not have enough available memory to run the game 
  361. with full music and sound effects under your current configuration. 
  362. Running the game from a boot disk should correct this problem. Use the 
  363. game's SETUP program to create a boot disk or use the boot disk 
  364. instructions in Sections 6 and 7.
  365.  
  366. NOTE: NOTE: Some sound drivers do not support sound correctly 
  367. when running DOS applications under Windows 95. This usually occurs 
  368. when the sound card is not directly supported by Windows 95, which 
  369. forces you to use the Windows 3.1 drivers for the sound card. Common 
  370. symptoms of this are lockups or simply no sound. You should be able to 
  371. get around this by restarting your computer in MS-DOS mode (with a 
  372. boot disk, if necessary) and running the game from DOS. If you 
  373. continue to experience problems with sound after booting from a boot 
  374. disk, check your sound card documentation to make sure that you have 
  375. all of the necessary lines in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT 
  376. files, or contact your sound card manufacturer for details or information 
  377. on updated Windows 95 drivers.
  378.  
  379. PROBLEM: While playing the game, the sound slows down or drops out, 
  380. or the video display becomes choppy and slow.
  381. SOLUTION: This is often caused by insufficient available memory. 
  382. Running the game from a boot disk should correct this problem. Use the 
  383. Install program to create a boot disk or use the boot disk instructions in 
  384. Sections 6 or 7. If you are running in Windows 95 make sure no other 
  385. applications are running. This includes screen savers, virus scanners and 
  386. anything using sound..
  387.  
  388.  
  389. SECTION 6 - INDYCAR RACING II BOOT DISK INSTRUCTIONS FOR DOS
  390.  
  391. IndyCar Racing II can make a boot disk for you. In order to do this 
  392. insert a blank disk in your A: Drive. Then change to the directory for the 
  393. game (i.e. \ICR2). Then at the prompt type SETUP <Enter>. Then 
  394. follow the instructions as they appear on the screen. This should work to 
  395. make a boot disk, however, if it doesn't you can follow the steps below 
  396. to make a boot disk manually.
  397.  
  398. STEP 1 - FORMATTING THE DISK
  399. To make a boot disk, you must system format a high density diskette in 
  400. the A: drive. This procedure will transfer the "system files" to the disk 
  401. and allow the computer to boot up correctly. The disk must be in the A: 
  402. drive; the computer will not boot from the B: drive. At a DOS prompt, 
  403. type the FORMAT command as follows:
  404.  
  405. FORMAT A: /S <ENTER>
  406. If you get a "Bad command or file name" error message, type: 
  407.  
  408. PATH=C:\DOS <ENTER>
  409.  
  410. Then retype the FORMAT command above. If you receive the error 
  411. again, the MS-DOS FORMAT command may not be on your system, or 
  412. it may have been renamed. Programs such as PC Tools and Norton Disk 
  413. Utilities sometimes rename the FORMAT command to prevent 
  414. accidental loss of data. If you are using a program of this type, check 
  415. your documentation to find out how to format a SYSTEM DISK, then 
  416. proceed to Step 2. 
  417.  
  418. STEP 2 - LOCATING THE MOUSE DRIVER 
  419. If you are playing a game that uses a mouse, the Microsoft compatible 
  420. mouse driver must be loaded into memory with the boot disk. There are 
  421. two kinds of mouse drivers available: those that load in the 
  422. CONFIG.SYS file and those that load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 
  423. CONFIG.SYS mouse drivers have an extension of .SYS (MOUSE.SYS) 
  424. and 
  425. AUTOEXEC.BAT drivers have either a .COM or .EXE extension 
  426. (MOUSE.COM, MOUSE.EXE). You must load at least one of these 
  427. drivers, but it is not necessary to load them all. 
  428.  
  429.  
  430. If you do not know where the mouse drivers are located on your system, 
  431. the command below should help you locate them. Type the following at 
  432. the C:\ prompt:
  433.  
  434. DIR MOUSE* /S <ENTER>
  435.  
  436. This command will cause the system to search all subdirectories for a 
  437. file called MOUSE. If the system locates a MOUSE file, it will display 
  438. the path where the file is located. For example, if the MOUSE.COM file 
  439. is located in a C:\MOUSE directory, the system will display:
  440.  
  441. Directory of C:\MOUSE
  442.     MOUSE.SYS            55160     03-10-92    3:10a
  443.     MOUSE.COM            56408    03-10-03    6:00a
  444.  
  445. If this procedure does not locate a MOUSE file, your mouse driver may 
  446. have a different name; some common names for mouse drivers are 
  447. IMOUSE, GMOUSE and HPMOUSE. Your should check your mouse 
  448. documentation for the exact file names and how to install them. 
  449.  
  450. Once you have located the mouse driver, you must copy it to the boot 
  451. disk. The following example assumes that the mouse drivers are located 
  452. in the C:\MOUSE directory as shown above. To copy the MOUSE files 
  453. to the boot disk, type:
  454.  
  455. COPY C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.* A: <ENTER>
  456.  
  457. Substitute the appropriate path and file names for your mouse drivers in

  497. drives. If this extension is not loaded correctly in the AUTOEXEC.BAT, 
  498. you will be unable to access your CD ROM drive. To display the 
  499. AUTOEXEC.BAT, type the following at a DOS prompt:

  519. Many sound cards have drivers or initialization lines that must be loaded 
  520. in the AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS. Some sound cards that 
  521. require these drivers or initialization routines are the SoundBlaster 16, 
  522. MAD16 and the Aria 16.
  523.  
  524. At the end of these Boot Disk Instructions, you will find a section 
  525. labeled "Sound Cards". These tables contain the sound card lines for 
  526. many common sound cards. Check to see if your sound card is on the 
  527. list. If it is, you will need to add the appropriate lines to the 
  528. AUTOEXEC.BAT and/or CONFIG.SYS on your boot disk. If your 
  529. sound card is not listed, you should check your documentation for 
  530. information on what needs to load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT and 
  531. CONFIG.SYS.

  533. STEP 6 - CREATING THE CONFIG.SYS FILE
  534. To create the CONFIG.SYS file on the boot disk, type the following at a

  612. or by using the <CTRL> <ALT> <DELETE> key sequence on your 
  613. keyboard. Follow the instructions in the game manual to start the game.

  616. SECTION 7 - WINDOWS 95 BOOT DISK INSTRUCTIONS 
  617.  
  618. IMPORTANT NOTE: Please read all instructions before beginning 
  619. this procedure. SECTION 7a will help you make a boot disk that will 
  620. start Windows 95, SECTION 7b will help you create a boot disk which 
  621. boots the computer to MS-DOS mode.
  622.  
  623. SECTION 7a - TRY THIS FIRST!
  624.  
  625. The following instructions will work for most systems. If this procedure 
  626. doesn't allow you to start IndyCar Racing II please follow the steps 
  627. outlined in SECTION 7b.
  628.  
  629. To make a boot disk, you must system format a high density diskette in 
  630. the A: drive. This procedure will transfer the "system files" to the disk 
  631. and allow the computer to boot up correctly. The disk must be in the A: 
  632. drive; the computer will not boot from the B: drive. 
  633.  
  634. To format a disk in Windows 95, put the disk in the drive, open My 
  635. Computer, then right click on the A: icon. From the pop-up menu, 
  636. select Format. Under "Format type" select Full; under "Other options", 
  637. choose Copy system files. Click on Start. 
  638.  
  639. After the disk is formatted, you must copy the MSDOS.SYS file from 
  640. the hard drive to the floppy disk. To do this, leave the floppy disk in the 
  641. drive, open Windows Explorer and find the MSDOS.SYS file in the 
  642. root of the C: drive. Right click on the file, then select Send to from the 
  643. pop-up menu. Send the file to the A: drive and replace the existing file.
  644.  
  645. NOTE: If you don't see the MSDOS.SYS file in Explorer, the file is 
  646. hidden. To make the file visible, select View, Options, then Show all 
  647. files. If you do not wish the hidden files to remain visible, you can hide 
  648. them again after you've made the boot disk by choosing View, Options, 
  649. Hide files of this type.
  650.  
  651. Now that you have the boot disk created, go to the START button and 
  652. select SHUT DOWN then select RESTART THE COMPUTER. When 
  653. the system restarts you should have a configuration that will work to run 
  654. IndyCar Racing II. If you still experience problems starting the game, 
  655. use the instructions in SECTION 7b to make a boot disk.

  659.  
  660. STEP 1 - FORMATTING THE DISK
  661. To make a boot disk, you must system format a high density diskette in 
  662. the A: drive. This procedure will transfer the "system files" to the disk

  664. drive; the computer will not boot from the B: drive.

  674. two kinds of mouse drivers available: those that load in the 
  675. CONFIG.SYS file and those that load in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. 
  676. CONFIG.SYS mouse drivers have an extension of .SYS (MOUSE.SYS) 
  677. and 
  678. AUTOEXEC.BAT drivers have either a .COM or .EXE extension 
  679. (MOUSE.COM, MOUSE.EXE). You must load at least one of these 
  680. drivers, but it is not necessary to load them all. 
  681.  
  682. If you do not know where the mouse drivers are located on your system, 
  683. the command below should help you locate them. Type the following at 
  684. the C:\ prompt:
  685.  
  686. DIR MOUSE* /S <ENTER>
  687.  
  688. This command will cause the system to search all subdirectories for a 
  689. file called MOUSE. If the system locates a MOUSE file, it will display 
  690. the path where the file is located. For example, if the MOUSE.COM file 
  691. is located in a C:\MOUSE directory, the system will display:
  692.  
  693. Directory of C:\MOUSE
  694.     MOUSE.SYS            55160     03-10-92    3:10a

  697. If this procedure does not locate a MOUSE file, your mouse driver may 
  698. have a different name; some common names for mouse drivers are 
  699. IMOUSE, GMOUSE and HPMOUSE. Your should check your mouse 
  700. documentation for the exact file names and how to install them.

  702. Once you have located the mouse driver, you must copy it to the boot 
  703. disk. The following example assumes that the mouse drivers are located 
  704. in the C:\MOUSE directory as shown above. To copy the MOUSE files 
  705. to the boot disk, type:
  706.  
  707. COPY C:\MOUSE\MOUSE.* A: <ENTER>
  708.  
  709. Substitute the appropriate path and file names for your mouse drivers in 
  710. the command above. After you press ENTER, you should see a message 
  711. indicating that some files were copied.

  713. STEP 3 - LOCATING THE CD ROM DEVICE DRIVER
  714. The CD ROM drive requires a device driver loaded in the CONFIG.SYS 
  715. file. This driver must be loaded correctly or you will be unable to access

  722. ROM device driver. The line should look something like this:
